Vonage

Vonage provides a third-party adapter for your standard landline phone that routes your calls over the Internet using the VoIP protocol, so that you can call your peers at lower rates than those offered by your telecom provider. Vonage sells also two international calling plans whereby you pay a flat rate ($25.99/mo or $54.99/mo, both plus taxes) and you can make unlimited calls to either 60 or 80 landlines and 10 or 40 mobiles, depending on the plan. Google Voice is a free service from Google that allows you to make and receive domestic phone calls in the US and international calls in the rest of the world for very low rates. Google Voice is web-based and you only need a Google Account to make it work. Google Voice also supports voicemail, SMS, conference calls, caller block, caller ID and several other features. Tru (former Truphone) is a mobile service that takes care of routing your calls (both domestic and internatinal) through the Internet to take advantage of the very low rates that come from using the VoIP protocol. Tru is currently available in the UK, USA and Australia, but European and Asian countries will be added in the near future. Tru requires you to register and (optionally) purchase a Tru SIM card for your mobile device to enjoy local phone call and Internet browsing rates. Tru membership is priced at $15/mo and you can keep your own phone number and works on any unlocked mobile phone. Tru is also available as a mobile app for iOS devices (iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad), Android Phones and also Blackberries. Tru supports voicemail, SMS, instant messaging, and several other features.

Fring is a free service that lets you make and receive VoIP phone calls using the Internet connection of your mobile phone. By registering for the FringOut service you can make international phone calls from 1¢ a minute. Fring also allows you to log in to your favorite VoIP and IM applications so that you can call and message with your Skype buddies, Live Messenger friends, AOL contacts and others. The free Fring mobile app is available for Nokia smartphones and support for Android and iPhone models is coming in the near future. The Fring Mobile app supports several features like video calls, call history, file sharing and more.

EvaPhone

EvaPhone is a Flash-based service that allows you to make both free and low cost international phone calls from your web browser. Free international phone calls are limited to 5 minutes each and to maximum two per day. You are also forced to watch a short ad before making your free call. Paid international phone calls are unlimited in number and time and no ads are shown. No voicemail, SMS service, mobile app are supported, nor you ca receive calls using EvaPhone. What you can do is chat with your EvaPhone buddies and video-call them, but using such features requires registration to the service.
