Mobivox's been great... Until about a week ago, that is. Access numbers are dead since about April 15 2012. When asked, Mobivox Support tells you to switch to Jaxtr, which is 20 more expensive and lacks features.

Great list of free phone call services. I'd also like to add Truphone and Fring to your list which are apps for mobile phones that let you make cheap voip calls directly from your mobile and if you're in a wifi zone you can make free phone calls.

Robin, the .exe and .dmg files are in fact dialers for windows and mac. What you see is just a frontend to these dialers. If you really want an OS independent provider, goto www.vyke.com (3 years 2.5M users) or your friends (1year ~1M users) and create an account. Vyke lets you use any number, Your friends let you set three numbers. Both have mobile clients, so you won't get stuck travelling.
